The second season of hit Netflix series Squid Game may have found its female lead. Actress Kim Si-Eun has been named for the role.
Korean news outlets were quick to report the news. However, Netflix has yet to be confirm the casting. According to a report by Soompi, when asked about the rumours, Netflix reportedly replied: “It is difficult to confirm.”
If proven to be true, this would make her the newest star to join the cast of the highly-anticipated series. The new season will see the return of Season 1 stars Lee Jung-Jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-Joon and Gong Yoo.
Netflix has previously announced other new cast members. These include ZE:A boyband member Im Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon and Yang Dong-Geun.
A surprise to fans
News that Kim Si-Eun had joined the cast Squid Game Season 2 surprised many fans. The actress has an easygoing attitude and bright smile. Fans believe this will make it difficult to accept seeing her in the dark and gloomy nature of the series.
However, Kim Si-Eun certainly has the chops to pull off more serious roles. She recently won the award for Best New Actress at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards for her role in Next Sohee.
Her other acting credits include the 2022 JTBC series Insider and the 2021 season of Love Alarm on Netflix.
