The enthralling thriller Celebrity, which focuses on the lifestyles and dramas of social media influencers, has premiered on Netflix.
The series, which stars Park Gyu-Young, Kang Min-Hyuk, Lee Chung-Ah and Lee Dong-Gun, is one of the most highly-anticipated new series to hit the streamer.
A report by The Korea Times earlier this week quoted series director Kim Cheol-Kyu as saying that … Celebrity “will take viewers into the competitive, cut-throat world of social media influencers”.
Part of Celebrity‘s appeal is that some real-life Korean social media influencers and TV personalities make guest appearances in the series. This includes choreographer Aiki, YouTuber Risabae, drag artist Nana Youngrong Kim and Single’s Inferno star Oh Jin-taek.
The Life of an Influencer
Celebrity follows the journey of one woman named Seo A-Ri (played by Park Gyu-Young) who becomes an online sensation overnight. She earns more than 1 million followers… However, this sudden fame comes at a price, leading to some unexpected – and deadly – consequences.
Today’s newly released trailer for the series kicks off with a voiceover from Seo A-Ri asking … “You’re dying to know how my life went from trashy ditch to this, aren’t you? How I’ve become a celebrity, what the reality of this world is like, or how you could all be a part of this world?”
The trailer then shows some intense scenes that hint at the darker nature of the show as the music ramps up the tension, culminating in a character exclaiming that “A-Ri … is dead”, before A-Ri herself is shown sitting down for a livestream, with her voiceover concluding: “All right, I’ll tell you. I was itching to anyway.”
The 12-episode series is currently streaming on Netflix.
