Netizens have come to the defence of HIGHLIGHT group member Dongwoon following his recent apology for his sudden marriage announcement.
On June 28, 2023, Dongwoon posted a handwritten note on his Instagram account announcing that he was planning to marry his fiancée this September.
In the note, Dongwoon mentioned that he had been “nervous and cautious” about releasing this information, as his fiancée was someone who was not part of the entertainment industry.
The news drew criticism from a small group of HIGHLIGHT fans … Who appeared to be unable to accept the news of Dongwoon’s engagement. They were also concerned that Dongwoon’s preparations for his wedding might disrupt HIGHLIGHT’s upcoming comeback activities.
On July 6, Dongwoon released a YouTube video apologizing to fans and HIGHLIGHT members for causing distress with his announcement. He said that he understood their feelings and said he would take time to reflect upon them.
He also deleted his original Instagram account, which has since been reinstated, with a new handle and no posts.
His apology video received support from many HIGHLIGHT fans and other netizens. They said Dongwoon didn’t need to apologize for starting a new life chapter.
His agency Around US Entertainment also confirmed that Dongwoon would still be “promoting actively as a member of HIGHLIGHT, a solo singer/songwriter, and an entertainer.”
