BTS’ Suga announces impending military enlistment

BTS member Suga will be the latest member of the group to serve in the military, in an announcement made through his agency today.

BigHit Music released a statement on WeVerse which read: “We would like to inform our fans that Suga has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement.”

The statement added: “We ask for your continued love and support for Suga until he completes his military enlistment and safely returns.” It said further details would be announced later.

Fans have reacted to the news with much sorrow, but were not surprised, as Suga’s enlistment was expected.

Fellow BTS members Jin and J-Hope are currently undergoing their mandatory military service, and BigHit Music has said in the past that all members of BTS would enlist by the end of 2023.

The announcement comes one day after Suga wrapped up his D-DAY tour in Seoul, in a tearful and emotional finale. His recent performances had been attended by his BTS groupmates, as a show of support.

The concert tour is a new career high for Suga, just one week after he was named the most streamed solo K-pop artist on Spotify.

We will certainly miss seeing Suga performing onstage, and we wish him all the best as he prepares for his military service.
