Kim Taehyung sets new Billboard record, dances with NEWJEANS

BTS member V set a new Billboard Global 200 record by becoming the first Korean solo artist to debut two songs simultaneously in the Top 10. His tracks Love Me Again and Rainy Days debuted at #6 and #8 respectively on the Billboard Global 200 Excl US chart. For the Billboard Global 200 chart (which includes the US), both songs were at #12 and #16 respectively.

This was not the only chart achievement this week for Kim Taehyung, also known as V. Love Me Again and Rainy Days also reached #3 and #4 respectively on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart. Both are pre-release tracks from his upcoming debut album Layover, which will be out Sept 8, 2023.

His song Love Me Again also made its debut at #96 on the Billboard Hot 100. The back-to-back achievements caused him to trend on X (formerly Twitter) with fans posting “CONGRATULATIONS TAEHYUNG” along with screenshots of the chart listings.

Getting ready for Blue

Kim Taehyung is in the midst of promotions for his album Layover. On Aug 22, he released the first teaser for his upcoming track Blue. The black-and-white clip teased the storyline for the music video by showing him walking down a hallway and banging on an apartment door. The second teaser for Blue will be released on Aug 25 at 12AM KST.

Fans are also looking forward to the official release of three songs – SceneryWinter Bear and Snowflower (feat. Peakboy) – recorded between 2019 and 2020.

Dancing to Hype Boy with NEWJEANS

In between all that Kim Taehyung set social media ablaze by joining girl group NEWJEANS in a TikTok video, dancing to their song Hype Boy. Both Kim Taehyung and the girls appear to be having a blast, as they perform the song’s signature moves in perfect harmony. He even puts his own spin on some of the movements, before they all pose together at the end.

Fans of both artists couldn’t get enough of the unexpected collaboration. Many praised how naturally Kim Taehyung executed the dance moves, with some calling him “the 6th member of NEWJEANS”. Some joked that dancing to Hype Boy must have been his idea, as NEWJEANS is currently promoting ETA and Super Shy.

At the time of writing, Kim Taehyung is in Tokyo, Japan for an overseas schedule appearance, possibly for fashion brand Celine. We wish him safe travels, and hope to see more from him soon!
