K-pop artists (G)I-DLE, THE BOYZ, Hyoyeon and Shaun will perform in Malaysia for the 9Wave Music Festival on Nov 11, 2023. The music festival promises to be “an unforgettable four-hour musical journey”, and will be held at the Sunway Surf Beach in Sunway Lagoon.
Fans of the artists are looking forward to seeing their biases live onstage. Further details of the event are expected to be announced soon.
In the meantime, here’s a quick rundown of the artists confirmed for the 9Wave Music Festival:
Shaun
Shaun (real name Kim Yun-Ho) is known for his smooth vocals and catchy melodies. His music is described as a mix of chillwave, indie pop, and electronica.
He debuted in 2010 as the keyboardist and backup singer of the indie rock band The Koxx. In 2018, he released his solo debut EP, Take, which featured the hit single Way Back Home. The song topped the Gaon Digital Chart and became one of the best-selling singles of the year in South Korea.
Shaun has since released several more singles and EPs, including Give Me a Kiss (2019), Steal the Show (2023) (feat. Jeff Satur), and All About You (2023). He has also collaborated with artists such as Sam Feldt, Conor Maynard and Malaysia’s very own Yuna.
Hyoyeon
Hyoyeon first came to our attention as a member of the OG girl group GIRLS’ GENERATION. In recent years, she has been making waves as a solo performer, releasing tracks like Mystery (2016), Sober (2018), and Second (2021). She has also established a second career as a DJ, performing at music festivals and clubs around the world.
In addition to her music career, Hyoyeon has also appeared in several television shows and variety programs. Her most notable TV appearance was in the singing reality competition Good Girl in 2020.
Last year, she dropped her highly-anticipated first EP Deep, and this year she released the sultry Picture, which fans are expecting her to perform at the 9Wave Music Festival.
THE BOYZ
This 11-member boy group first debuted in 2017. The members are Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo and Eric. This will be their fist visit to Malaysia.
Over the course of their music career, the group has won several awards for their music.They also have a large and dedicated fan following, known as The B.
This year, THE BOYZ have made notable appearances at the K-pop Super Live concert and KCON LA. Local fans are looking forward to seeing THE BOYZ perform their latest tracks, including Lip Gloss and Passion Fruit.
(G)I-DLE
Fans of (G)I-DLE are excited see them return to Malaysia after their world tour stop in Kuala Lumpur last September. The group is known for experimental and diverse music, blending genres such as hip hop, EDM, and pop.
Last year, (G)I-DLE released their first studio album I Never Die, and dropped their sixth EP I Feel this May. Members Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua are renowned for their talent as performers. They have also pushed the boundaries of K-pop with tracks like Tomboy and their recent hit Queencard.
