BLACKPINK, Jungkook, STRAY KIDS and TXT win at 2023 MTV VMAs

K-pop acts ruled at the 2023 MTV VMAs, with BLACKPINK, BTS’ Jungkook, STRAY KIDS and TXT taking home the prestigious Moon Person trophy. STRAY KIDS and TXT also delivered fiery performances during the ceremony at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. TXT also premiered their next pre-release single Back For More, a collaboration with Brazilian singer Anitta.

STRAY KIDS

STRAY KIDS rocked the stage with their performance of S-Class, their mega-hit off their album 5-Star. The boys rocked the stage dressed in designer outfits, to the delight of the crowd. Check out these stunning images of their performance, provided by MTV.

STRAY KIDS also took home the Best K-pop trophy. Member Bang Chan told the MTV VMAs audience: “We’ve been making our music ever since the start of our career, but to receive this award just really means a lot to us.”

The group also had their own viral moment during the night. When they were announced as the winners, the group members appeared not to have heard it. Bang Chan repeatedly had to clarify that they did indeed win, before they finally went onstage.

The confusion was replicated on a smaller scale on X (formerly Twitter). The MTV Asia account accidentally tagged a STRAY KIDS fan account when sharing the video, instead of the group’s official account.

TXT

TXT took home the award for Push Performance of the Year at the 2023 MTV VMAs, for their song Sugar Rush Ride. They also set fans hearts pumping with their sexy Back For More performance with Anitta. The Brazilian diva even joined the boys in performing their signature dance moves, even posing alongside members Yeonjun and Taehyun. Check out the photos of the performance, courtesy of MTV.

BLACKPINK and Jungkook

Girl group BLACKPINK turned out to be the biggest K-pop winners of the night, taking home two trophies at the 2023 MTV VMAs. The group won for Best Choreography for their sons Pink Venom, and the group were also named the Group of the Year. They are the first girl group to win the award since US rap group TLC in 1999.

BTS member Jungkook also took home his first MTV VMAs award as a solo artist for Seven featuring Latto. The global hit was named the Song of the Summer, adding to the numerous accolades he has received for the track.
