BLACKPINK Lisa’s contract talks with YG still ongoing

On September 14, Star News ignited the K-pop community with a report detailing ongoing contract negotiations between BLACKPINK’s Lisa and YG Entertainment. As the iconic group approaches the final year of their contract … Lisa has reportedly received lucrative offers from global labels, some even crossing the tens of millions of dollars mark.

Star News further fueled the fire by stating that Lisa had already turned down two proposals from YG Entertainment. Rumors suggest that these offers hover around â‚©50.0 billion KRW (approximately US$37.7 million).

YG Entertainment responds

Responding to the media frenzy, YG Entertainment issued a statement on Sept 15. YG stated that they are still in discussions about renewing Lisa’s contract and have not made any final decisions.

Previously, an unnamed Chinese agency had cited Lisa’s uncertain contract status as the reason for scheduling conflicts regarding her TV appearances. YG Entertainment was quick to clarify that the scheduling issues were related to BLACKPINK’s ongoing tour and Lisa’s individual commitments, not her contract status.

Despite YG’s attempts to quell the rumours, speculation continues to swirl, suggesting that Lisa has received significant offers from other agencies and may be considering leaving YG Entertainment.

What the fans think

The K-pop community has been vocal about their thoughts on the matter, with many fans urging Lisa to explore new opportunities and criticizing YG Entertainment for not fully capitalizing on her immense talent and popularity.

Some of the comments from netizens include:

  • First, YG never releases albums. They aren’t even close to other labels in this regard.
  • The music and music video quality are falling behind.
  • YG only wants to push their new girl group and their nonchalant attitude is reprehensible.
  • YG isn’t doing anything for Lisa relative to her talent and popularity.
  • I wouldn’t re-sign either… (YG) wasn’t able to maximize Lisa’s talents. This goes for the other members as well.

Lisa and the rest of the members of BLACKPINK are currently gearing up for the grand finale of their sold-out BORN PINK World Tour this weekend. The group will perform the final two shows at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea.

After that, Lisa is slated to perform five shows at the infamous Crazy Horse on George V in Paris, France, on Sept 28 to 30, 2023. Tickets for all five shows are already sold out, with prices starting from €250 (US$267).
