BTS’ Jungkook has broken yet another record with his smash hit single Seven, staying on top of the Billboard Global chart for nine weeks in a row. The news came to light following the release of the latest Billboard chart rankings for the week ending Sept 23, 2023.
Currently, Seven is ranked at #1 on the Billboard Global (Excl. US) chart, where it has stayed since it debuted in July. Jungkook is now the first K-pop solo artist to achieve this honor, surpassing the previous record he held with his group BTS. Their 2020 single Dynamite stayed at the top of the Billboard Global chart for a total of eight weeks.
Seven has also maintained its position at #2 on the Billboard Global 200 chart. Previously, Seven sat at #1 for seven consecutive weeks, before conceding the spot last week to Paint The Town Red by Doja Cat.
The success continues for Seven
The global acclaim for Seven is indisputable. Not only did it reach #1 on Billboard’s main Hot 100 chart, but it also peaked at #3 on the UK Official Singles Chart’s Top 100. It was also a success on streaming services, debuting at #1 on iTunes charts in various countries across the globe, and making Jungkook the fastest male artist to reach 500 million streams on Spotify.
Seven has also been certified as the ‘song of the summer’, twice over. It was named Billboard’s No. 1 Global Song of the Summer for 2023, and received the award for Song of the Summer at the 2023 MTV VMAs.
Seven is an upbeat track with lyrics that depict the desire to spend every moment with a loved one. Known for its infectious melody, the song features acoustic guitar elements and a UK garage rhythm, further solidifying Jungkook’s versatility as an artist.
As Jungkook’s solo career continues to soar, he is preparing to headline the Global Citizen Festival at Central Park in New York on Sept 24 (KST). This event further underscores his influence and impact on the global music stage.
