iKON, the K-Pop sensation, closed 2022 by parting ways with their long-standing label, YG Entertainment. IKON’s enigmatic members has since embarked on a fresh start with 143 Entertainment … A move that has fans and the industry buzzing.
During the U.S. leg of their TAKE OFF world tour, iKON members Bobby and DK sat down with K-pop columnist Jeff Benjamin in New York. They shed light on their decision to transition from YG Entertainment, the label that launched them, to their new home at 143 Entertainment.
Bobby revealed that they met someone at 143 Entertainment who offered a unique opportunity to explore the entertainment industry more deeply. This was an opportunity they had been seeking since their early days.
While praising YG Entertainment as a “stellar company,” Bobby pointed out that YG’s approach was to manage everything for them. All iKON had to do was perform and create music. DK added that since joining 143 Entertainment, they’ve enjoyed greater creative freedom, releasing albums that truly reflect iKON’s unique style and essence.
In a significant milestone, iKON recently regained all their group trademarks from YG Entertainment, marking a new era for the group and a notable moment in K-Pop history.
Last year, iKON bid adieu to YG Entertainment with their final mini-album, Flashback, and a subsequent tour in Japan. On Dec 30, 2022 they announced their departure as a complete group. Just days later, they inked a deal with 143 Entertainment, signalling the start of an exciting new chapter.
