The much-anticipated romance K-drama, Doona!, held a glamorous press conference yesterday, unveiling exciting details about the series. The event in Seoul was graced by the presence of the director, Lee Jung-Hyo, and the show’s leading stars, Bae Suzy and Yang Se-Jong.
The press conference was attended by Korean media, and also streamed online for international press. It offered a sneak peek into what promises to be one of the year’s most captivating television series.
Director Lee Jung-Hyo, known for directing hit romance K-drama series like Crash Landing on You and Romance Is a Bonus Book, shared his enthusiasm about the project. “Doona! is a story of two people who live in completely different worlds, and who meet [and] blend into each others’ worlds. It’s the process of it, and it’s the process of beginning to understand each other.
“It’s also about that [time] in your early 20s when you’re not that skilled at everything; you’re a little bit naïve, and I really wanted to focus on that youth.” Director Lee expressed his gratitude to the talented cast who brought the characters to life.
A heart-fluttering romance
MISS A member Bae Suzy plays Doona, a former K-pop idol who shares a home with a young college student. Suzy gave an insight into the unique character. “She is very sensitive, very alert,” Suzy said. “She has her guard up, and it’s hard to tell what she’s thinking. But once you get to know her, she loves people, and she has a thirst for love. And I think she’s someone you just want to reach out and hug.
“When I got the script, my heart was really fluttering, I would sometimes scream as I was reading the script. So, before I got older, I thought that this would be a perfect character that I could play really well.”
Yang Se-Jong plays Lee Won-Jun, a college student whose life gets turned upside down by the arrival of Doona. “Won-Jun is a perfectly ordinary college freshman,” he said. “He’s puzzled and confused, and he doesn’t want to get close to Doona in the beginning. But later on, he kind of blends into Doona’s world and vice versa.”
He also teased some intense scenes that fans should look forward to. “I think for Won-Jun, his heart started to flutter from the very beginning, but he expressed it in a different way. He tried to avoid [Doona], he tried to push her back. Later on in the story, he says this particular line to Doona, and if you think about it, [it shows] from the very beginning, his heart was fluttering for Doona.”
