After creating waves internationally as the premier K-creature series, Sweet Home is gearing up to make a triumphant return. Eager fans can expect the riveting Season 2 to premiere on Netflix on December 1, 2023. In this continuation, the narrative dives into a world where unchecked desires terrifyingly transform into monstrous beings, ensuring a season filled with heightened suspense. This time around, the plot intricately weaves the journey of the Green Home survivors as they tread through unfamiliar landscapes, facing newfound perils.
Venturing beyond Green Home
The recently released trailer intriguingly showcases an old baseball stadium, suggesting a shift from the familiar confines of Green Home. This stadium becomes a sanctuary for our protagonists, laying the foundation for a budding community. As they grapple with fresh challenges, viewers can anticipate both external confrontations and internal struggles with their own dark instincts.
The trailer for Season 2 shows a captured Hyun-Su (Song Kang), who is being transported to an unknown location. A mysterious voice asks if he is the savior who can end all this. He asks, “What do I need to do?” and blood then drenches him.
We then see scenes of people escaping or fending off attacks from the murderous creatures, and the trailer ends a shot of a bloody Hyun-Su, with the voice announcing to begin “the first experiment on MH-5.”
With the looming threat of increasing attacks, one can’t help but wonder: Is Hyun-Su the beacon of hope humanity desperately needs?
Expanding the Sweet Home universe
Director Lee Eung-Bok joins forces with writer Kim Kanbi, creating a storyline that goes beyond the original webtoon. Their efforts have broadened the horizons of the Sweet Home universe, enabling a deeper exploration of complex themes.
Director Lee provides a tantalizing hint, stating: “It is going to be a full-fledged apocalyptic drama. While Season 1 portrayed tension and fear in the confined space of the Green Home, Season 2 will be set in an open space with the introduction of a whole new group of characters and monsters.”
Lee Jin-Wook, who plays Pyeon Sang-wook, affirms: “This season will present a world that diverges from the original webtoon. As the world expands, there will be more to think about.” Lee Si-Young – who plays former firefighter Seo Yi-Kyung — adds to the excitement for how the story will unfold. He says: “A vastly sprawling world awaits the characters after they leave Green Home. Everyone will go through major changes.”
