Director Ha Byung-Hoon, Seo In-Guk, Park So-Dam, Kim Ji-Hoon, Choi Si-Won, Sung Hoon, Kim Kang-Hoon, Jang Seung-Jo, Lee Jae-Wook, Go Yoon-Jung, Kim Jae-Wook, and Kim Mee-Kyung gathered at a press conference in Seoul recently to discuss Death’s Game, currently airing on Prime Video.
The fantasy reincarnation story centers around Choi Yee-Jae (Seo In-Guk) who wants to give up on life. Death (Park So-Dam) then punishes him to being reincarnated through 12 different lives and Yee-Jae must stop their imminent deaths.
The series is available on Prime Video in Malaysia and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Part 1 of the series premieres on December 15, 2023, with Part 2 released on January 5 2024. Check out why you don’t want to miss out on the series below.
1. The Star-Studded Cast
Death’s Game arguably features the most star-studded cast of the year. Full of top-notch actors, each actor has experience leading popular dramas. Honestly, even just one of these actors would be reason enough to check out the series.
Director Ha Byung-Hoon shared: “I started working on the script in January of last year. While writing it, I had specific actors in mind. I thought about which actors I wanted to work with and actors who would elicit a response about how good the casting is.” He definitely succeeded in lining up a buzzworthy cast!
2. The Variety of Characters
With such a large and amazing cast, you can count on a variety of compelling characters. Since Yee-Jae is reincarnated into 12 different lives, we get to see him live as 12 different people. Director Ha Byung-Hoon explained: “Each actor plays two roles in one: one as their original character and the other as Yee-Jae reincarnated into the original character.”
Each of the reincarnated lives come from all walks of life. The long list of characters include a conglomerate heir, bullying victim, prisoner, model, and more. It’ll be interesting to see who he becomes reincarnated into next.
3. Park So-Dam’s Return
Parasite actress Park So-Dam was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in 2021 and Death’s Game marks her drama return. She spoke about her experience and said: “Honestly, the recovery was difficult. I think people who have had the same experience as me will understand what it’s like.”
Park So-Dam also talked about her casting process and how the director believed in her which gave her courage to take on the role. She also thanked the director, Seo In-Guk, and all of the cast members for being considerate and helping her during filming.
4. The Realistic Acting
When asked about how the series sets itself apart from the original webtoon, Director Ha Byung-Hoon said: “I think we wanted to make scenes realistic and this sets us apart from the webtoon. For example, the skydiving scene, the fighting scenes, and the motorcycle scenes are all real. They could look like CG, but the actors really filmed them.”
Sung Hoon revealed: “I actually jumped about 13 times when filming the skydiving scene.” Jang Seung-Jo shared: “There are a lot of scenes where I ride a motorcycle, so I got a license.”
Lee Jae-Wook also talked about working with a familiar stunt team for the fighting scenes and how the director prepared thoroughly and provided helpful references. Can’t wait to see these scenes!
5. The Message
Finally, the actors also discussed the message of the series. Seo In-Guk talked about how the message of valuing life is very strong and clear. Park So-Dam added: “As you watch our series, I think you’ll be able to gradually talk about your lives with the people around you. I think it will make you think about your daily lives and who you are as a person.”
Kim Ji-Hoon concluded: “There’s a lot of content these days. In the midst of all the content, your time is really precious. I hope you will spend your time on our series Death’s Game and have a meaningful time.”
