Shakatak Escalates NEWJEANS Plagiarism Claim

British band Shakatak has doubled down on its accusation that NEWJEANS’ Bubble Gum plagiarized their song Easier Said Than Done. The band has hired a musicologist to analyze the tracks, intensifying the ongoing controversy.

ADOR’s Min Hee-Jin has challenged Shakatak to provide concrete evidence, setting the stage for a potential legal battle. Critics have lambasted Shakatak for rushing to judgment amidst the escalating feud.

Public Backlash and Reactions

Shakatak has faced substantial backlash online following their accusations. Many netizens criticized the band for their handling of the situation, questioning why they did not analyze the song before making claims.

Comments from netizens included:

  • “Shouldn’t they have analyzed the song first before making plagiarism claims? lol.”
  • “The songs were too similar so I thought they said they used it as a sampling.”
  • “This is getting funnier.”
  • “When criticizing other groups for plagiarism, did they wait for a court ruling first? No, they didn’t.”
  • “Nothing less expected of HYBE people.”
  • “Plagiarism Jeans, tsk tsk. Ultimate hypocrisy.”
  • “This is so funny. ADOR Min Hee-Jin.”

Speculations on HYBE’s Involvement

The controversy has also sparked accusations against HYBE. Netizens have speculated that HYBE might be behind the plagiarism allegations to divert attention from previous controversies involving Pledis Entertainment group TWS.

Fans noted similarities between TWS’s new track Double Take and GD&TOP’s Knock Out video. Media coverage of these allegations led to the swift removal of related articles, sparking suspicions about HYBE’s involvement.

Considering that NEWJEANS’ song was released over two months ago, the timing of the plagiarism allegations has raised eyebrows. Some believe that HYBE could be attempting to shift focus from the TWS controversy amid ongoing feuds with ADOR.

Despite the legal drama, NewJeans continues to enjoy success and is scheduled to perform at a high-profile soccer match in South Korea.

The group is set to perform at the halftime show of the ‘2024 Coupang Play Series’ Premier League match between Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur on August 3 at Seoul World Cup Stadium.

This match marks the first major Premier League game in South Korea, featuring South Korean National Team stars Kim Min-Jae of Bayern Munich and Son Heung-Min of Tottenham Hotspur.
