Sweet Home Season 3 Episode 4 Recap and Review

Sweet Home Season 3 Episode 4 begins with Jae-Jin eagerly playing with the mountain monster. Eun-Yu gets caught in the chaos, and Monster Hyun-Su reluctantly saves her. After a tough battle, Hyun-Su defeats the monster, cutting off Jae-Jin’s hand when he tries to meet him. Finding Jae-Jin weak, Hyun-Su drags him to the stadium upon learning Sang-Won is there.

Yi-Kyung’s Plea for Forgiveness

Three hooded MHs arrive at the stadium searching for someone but are killed by Sang-Won.

Yi-Kyung finally finds her daughter and embraces her. Yi-Kyung apologizes and expresses her desire to earn her daughter’s trust. She offers to wait at the secret exit vent, hoping they can escape together.

Meanwhile, the Bamseom Monster Humans locks up the corpses of the hooded figures which have now turned into cocoons. Tak reveals he is infected to prevent Sang-Won from retaliating, gaining Sang-Won’s trust. Sang-Won explains the hooded visitors as neohumans who continually resurrected from cocoons when killed.

After Tak reveals his infection, he rushes to Lim to learn the next steps in his monsterization.

The Mystery Revealed

At the church, Eun-Hyuk, a neohuman, explains to Kim the nature of cocoons and the evolutionary step they represent. He shares the neohumans’ desire to find others like them and exist peacefully, while the MHs see them as threats.

Eun-Yu reunites with Chan-Young and Ha-Ni, heading to the stadium, believing Hyun-Su will be there. Jae-Jin, meanwhile, ponders Hyun-Su’s motives, realizing they are for Human Hyun-Su’s sake. Jae-Jin’s hand regenerates, and he burns Hyun-Su before fleeing.

Yeong-Su finds his baseball, realizing that Yi-Kyung’s daughter retrieved it for him. He advises her to stay with her mother to avoid regrets, giving her a pin from Mr. Ahn.

A Tragic Reunion

In the tunnel, Yi-Kyung’s daughter asks her mother for her name, but Sang-Won interrupts them. Sang-Won’s true intentions are revealed when Yi-Kyung stabs him and tells her daughter to run. Sang-Won’s fury exposes his contempt, stating Yi-Kyung’s value ended with their daughter’s birth before fatally stabbing her.

In her dying moments, Yi-Kyung finally reveals to her daughter her name …. Seo Yi-Su.

Oppa’s Thoughts

This episode contains a significant amount of info-dumping. Since season 1, the biggest issue with this K-drama has been its erratic pacing. Important information is crammed into exposition sequences, while many filler scenes are unnecessarily prolonged. In Season 3, the pacing and storytelling feel disjointed, with side characters being killed off seemingly just to conclude their roles in the show.

Yi-Kyung’s death, while emotional, ultimately feels pointless considering the effort Hyun-Su put into turning her back into a human in the first two episodes.
