(G)I-DLE apologizes and donates to the Korean Red Cross

Popular K-Pop group (G)I-DLE found themselves in hot water recently due to a controversial stage outfit. During a performance on the music show Music Bank, the members donned lifeguard-inspired costumes that included the Red Cross emblem. This sparked outrage as the unauthorized use of this symbol is strictly prohibited by Korean law.

The Korean Red Cross Act explicitly forbids anyone, except for the Red Cross itself, military medical institutions, or those with official authorization, from using the Red Cross symbol for commercial or promotional purposes. Violators face hefty fines.

Beyond the symbol issue, the group’s revealing outfits also drew criticism. Many felt the costumes were overly sexualized and inappropriate for a lifeguard theme.

Cube Entertainment’s Apology

(G)I-DLE’s management agency, Cube Entertainment, swiftly apologized for the incident, acknowledging the error in judgment. They reached out to the Korean Red Cross to express their remorse and pledged to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Meaningful Donation

But the group’s response went beyond simply saying sorry. To demonstrate their sincerity and contribute to a good cause, all five members of (G)I-DLE made substantial donations to the Korean Red Cross to support flood relief efforts. Inspired by the Red Cross’s vital role in disaster relief, the group wanted to help those affected by the recent floods.

The Red Cross expressed gratitude for (G)I-DLE’s generous support, stating that the donation would provide crucial assistance to flood victims. This unexpected turn of events transformed a public relations crisis into a heartwarming act of charity.
