BTS fans are getting a treat with the premiere of Are You Sure?!, a new travel vlog featuring members Jungkook and Jimin. The 8-episode series, which airs on Disney+ Hotstar, was shot just before the two began their military service in December 2023.
Are You Sure?! documents their travels around New York, USA; Jeju, South Korea; and Sapporo, Japan, as they try new experiences. It is the latest docu-series featuring members of BTS to premiere on the streamer, following previous hits like BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star, SUGA: Road to D-DAY and j-hope IN THE BOX.
An intimate peek into Jungkook and Jimin’s friendship
The first episode kicks off in New York, following Jungkook’s successful solo US debut on Good Morning America. Both Jungkook and a visiting Jimin immediately set off on their planned road trip around the state.
The first two episodes follow them as they take part in a range of activities. From kayaking on the open river to camping under the stars, the duo go through a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences.
Besides getting to watch the two joke around and enjoy each others’ company, we also get some quiet moments where they reflect upon their journey so far, and wonder about where life will take them. These candid glimpses serve as a refreshing reminder that behind the music and fame are two ordinary individuals, with the same fears and hopes as the rest of us.
A bittersweet experience
Throughout the first episode, there are several scenes where they discuss the show they are making. Jungkook openly wonders what it is they are filming, and Jimin reminds him that they are making a travel show. It’s so that “our fans can watch this while we are serving”, he adds.
And certainly, ARMYs are going to enjoy this peek into their lives, getting to watch two of the biggest K-pop idols in the world savor their last days of ‘freedom’ before they enlist. Other BTS members even make ‘cameo appearances’, as Jimin and Jungkook call them during their trip to chat.
While the aimless, unscripted direction of the episodes might test the viewer’s patience at times, what keeps our attention is undoubtedly the interactions between the two stars. Watching Jungkook and Jimin goof around is both entertaining and tinged with melancholy, knowing that this is their ‘final holiday’ before they begin their military service.
