Squid Game Star Oh Yeong-Su Appeals 8-Month Sexual Misconduct Sentence

Squid Game actor Oh Yeong-Su has recently appealed his 8-month sentence for sexual misconduct. This case has gained significant public attention, given his rise to fame from the globally popular Netflix series.

Oh Yeong-Su’s Appeal: Claiming the Sentence is Too Harsh

Oh Yeong-Su’s legal team argued during the first appeal hearing that the sentence imposed on him was excessively severe. In November 2022, Oh was indicted on charges of forcibly molesting a woman, including hugging and kissing her without consent in 2017.

The court found him guilty in May 2024, sentencing him to 8 months in prison, suspended for 2 years. His legal team contends that the social and professional repercussions he has already faced should be considered, including his removal from film projects and a ban from appearing on KBS.

The prosecution, which initially sought a one-year sentence, also appealed the decision, arguing that the sentence was too lenient. The case remains contentious, with both sides preparing for the next court session on October 29, 2024.

As the legal process continues, the outcome of this appeal will significantly impact Oh Yeong-Su’s future in the entertainment industry.
